I am also a victim of Mirasol. Was contracting through Albany Technologies Limited and have deposited more than GBP40,000 in Mirasol.
In the past month I have spoken (completely off the record) to my g/f's brother in law, who works for HMRC.
He has told me, in a nutshell, that keeping income in Mirasol and not declaring it to the UK tax authorities is completely illegal. Because I am "resident" in the UK I am supposed to declare *all* income derived overseas.
Although this isn't absolutely his area of expertise (his words) he seemed pretty certain about a number of things.
1. DO NOT contact the Administrators. He reckons that Administrators work closely with an HMRC office in Brighton that deals with these matters. He reckons they've done a deal and will pass information to HMRC. Even if the money is completely gone (and I pray it's not) WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TAX ON THE EARNINGS!!!!! Even if we never saw a penny!
2. Get some advise from a tax accountant - one who specialises in overseas tax issues. He was very clear that I would need to call in the 'big boys' and not wander down to my local high street accountant in sleepy Surrey!
Good luck people. I think we'll need it. I'd bet money (that I don't have) that every last penny is gone.
